South Australia has several roads that are numbered using alphanumeric designation to indicate the importance and / or the standard of the route. This system was introduced in 1998. 1
The route numbering markers feature a letter and number in gold on a green background and are designated as follows: 1
- M for freeway or expressway
- A for a main route
- B for a secondary route
- D for unsealed routes
- R for a ring route
