General Information:

Formerly signposted as Main North Road and Quorn-Wilmington Road, B82 is entirely rural highway standard and passes through a number of small farming towns from Gawler into South Australia's Flinders Ranges. The route is named after John Horrocks who travelled through the area with his party in August 1846 during his ill-fated exploration of land north of Spencer Gulf. 1

History:

May 2005: Re-alignment of road surface curves and the sealing of the existing shoulder, between Templers and Tarlee. 2
March 2008: Local council votes in favour to support the dual naming of the portion of Main North Road in the Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council area to include the name 'Horrocks Highway'. 3
March 2012: Work commences on upgrades at the junction of Main North Road (now Horrocks Highway) and Anama Lane and also Main North Road and Black Rock-Clare Road. 4
September 2013: Completion of upgrades at the junction of Main North Road (now Horrocks Highway) and Anama Lane and also Main North Road and Black Rock-Clare Road. The redevelopment works included widening and resurfacing of the road, the installation of batters, drainage and protective safety barriers as well as tree removal where necessary. 5
2014: A32 replaced by B82 between Giles Corner and Gawler.
