Berri, the second largest town in the Riverland region of South Australia, lies against the Murray River surrounded by vast various fruit plantations. The town was formed in 1911, just after the Riverland region was opened for irrigation and built on an old paddlesteamer refuelling depot. The town serves the local area and fruit industries with substantial shopping facilities and provides the administrative centre for the region. Also in town is the Big Orange (5km north-east), extensive water sports & facilities, the Water Tower lookout, the Murray River National Park (10km south) and the Berri Estates Winery.
