Boonah, located in the Fassifern Valley is the centre of a thriving agricultural region which supports a variety of industries ranging from beef farming through to vegetable crops such as potatoes and corn. Set amongst the Great Dividing Range with the prominent escarpment almost encircling the shire, the town has been dubbed the heart of the Scenic Rim and in recent times has become a popular weekend retreat for its range of water features, bushwalking and quieter lifestyle. Of interest in the area include - Lake Moogerah (15km south-west) popular for water sports and picnic facilities, Maroon Dam (30km south east), the historical Cunninghams Gap (25km south east) with Mt French and the Border Ranges National Parks also in close proximity.
