General Information:
Traffic signals in Australia are generally modular and can be configured in various setups.
Australian traffic light sequences generally follow the pattern: red, green, amber, then red. However, in some states, an older sequence; red, red-amber, green, amber, red; was used and, although now officially phased out, could still be found at some intersections in suburban Melbourne well into the early 2000s. Pedestrian signals display a red standing figure during the Don't Walk phase and a green walking figure during the Walk phase. The Walk phase is followed by a flashing Don't Start To Cross phase, which also uses the red standing figure. Some jurisdictions have started replacing this with a countdown timer.
