General Information:

National Route 79 was an arterial route in the Melbourne CBD. It once formed a much larger route, connecting Melbourne with Sunbury, Gisborne, Macedon, Kyneton, Castlemaine, Bendigo, Whycheproof, Ouyen and Mildura, before crossing into New South Wales to eventually connect with Broken Hill.

What remains of NR79 is divided roadway and passes through parkland, commercial and residential zones, and former industrial area. Trams run along the Flemington Road and Kings Way sections of the route.
