General Information:

Metropolitan Route 60 is an arterial route linking Melbourne's inner southern suburbs, the CBD and inner northern suburbs. The route crosses the Yarra River to the southeast of the Melbourne CBD via Kings Bridge.

Prior to the construction of freeways in the city, the route was part of a major link through the city, linking the Victorian capital with Adelaide and the western areas of Victoria, as well as Sydney via the east coast. The route is fully divided, with some sections used by tram traffic, and services mostly commercial precincts.

History:

1961: Grade separation of King St and Flinders St in Melbourne, as part of the construction of Kings Way. It was the first major grade-separation bridge project in Victoria. 2
2005: Demolition of the Flinders St overpass. It was replaced with traffic lights. 2
2013: Metropolitan Route 60 introduced. 3
