General Information:

Formally Bonang Highway, C612 is a rural route linking the Snowy River town of Orbost with the ranges to the north of the town and eventually the NSW-Vic border. The route is narrow and windy, and passes through some of the country's most picturesque regions.

The road was established to allow access to gold mining in the Bendoc area south of Delegate after 1852, and as an access road for logging and other forestry activities in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. 2

Multiplexes along the route include:
C107, for 350 m, Orbost.
Tourist Drive 6 (Raymond Creek Falls Tourist Drive), for 1.5 km, between Marlo Rd (C107) and Scott St, Orbost
Tourist Drive 81 (Snowy River Country Trail), for 92 km, between Marlo Rd (C107), Orbost and McKillops Rd (C611), Bonang

History:

1852: Establishment of route. 2
March 1938: The Monaro Highway (on NSW side of border) was routed from Bombala via Delegate to the Victorian Border near Delegate River. This routing ensured connectivity with the Victorian state highway system, via the Bonang Highway. 3
December 1977: Monaro Hwy re-routed on NSW side of border. 3
