General Information:
Formally known as Cann Valley Highway, B23 is a significant north-south route in the East Gippsland area. Now known as the Monaro Highway, it links the region to Canberra, is a single carriageway rural highway, and features a few large sections of windy roadway. It passes through a handful of villages and national parks.
History:
- March 1985: The Roads Corporation sealed Cann Valley Highway to the NSW Border.
- 25 October 1996: The Roads Corporation of Victoria renames Cann Valley Highway to Monaro Highway. 3
- 1999: Bypass of gravel section of Monaro Highway near NSW-Vic Border. New segment sealed as a result. Cann Valley Highway renamed Monaro Highway in Victoria.

NR23 Trailblazer:
Old NR23 trailblazer at Chandlers Creek dating from before the conversion to alphanumeric route numbering, January 2010. It's possible it was kept as the Monaro Hwy changed to NR23 in NSW, of which, the border is in the distance. When this photo was taken, NSW had not transitioned to alphanumeric route numbering. The sign is dated September 1986 and has since been removed.
