General Information:
A13 is one of the main north-south routes in metropolitan Adelaide and links the city to the Fleurieu Peninsula, the route starts in Bedford Park and continues through Morphett Vale, Reynella and Old Noarlunga. From Old Noarlunga, Main South Road continues south as the B23, while the A13 follows Victor Harbor Road to the small town of Mount Compass then south onto the holiday destination of Victor Harbor. 2
Multiplexes along the route include:
- B34, for 1.6 km, between Willunga and Willinga Hill.
History:
- 1998: A13 route number given when Transport SA was rolling out route numbers with the introduction of the alphanumeric numbering system.
- May 2010: Intersection upgrade works at the corner of Victor Harbor Road and Main South Road commenced. 3
- September 2010: Completion of intersection upgrade at Victor Harbor Rd and Main South Rd. Works included installation of traffic lights including a pedestrian crossing at the Main South Road junction with Victor Harbor Road widening South Road to three lanes each way between Main South Road and Seaford Road / Patapinda Road, introduction of additional lanes on the Victor Harbor Road and the Main South Road (south) approaches and improving the existing Main South Road / Seaford Road / Patapinda Road intersection. 3
- October 2011: Work commences on grade separation of the junction of Main South Road and Main Road at McLaren Vale. 4
- January 2013: Grade separation works at Main South Road and Main Road, McLaren Vale, completed. 4
- 2014: Construction begins on a point-to-point speed camera on a 5.7 kilometre stretch of Victor Harbor Road from McLaren Vale to Willunga. 5
- October 2015: Safety upgrades implemented between Old Noarlunga and Victor Harbor. Work included 1.2 metre wide central painted median along a 3 kilometre section of the Noarlunga to Victor Harbor Road, between Old Willunga Hill Road and Yundi Road. Audio-tactile line marking was also installed as part of the central median, to help prevent the risk of head on road crashes. The work also included extending the sheltered right turn lane at the junction with Pages Flat Road, resurfacing works and the replacement safety barriers. 6
