General Information:
Tourist Drive 24 is a former alignment of the Bruce Highway. It is also the main connector road to the townships of Beerburrum, Glasshouse Mountains, Beerwah and Landsborough.
The route generally consists of rural highway standard, with a few sections of divided road. it features several tourist attractions including the world famous Australia Zoo.
Multiplexes along the route include:
- State Route 6, for 15 km, between Beerwah and Glenview.
History:
- June 1962: Landsborough by-pass opened to traffic. 2
- 27 September 2006: Glass House Mountains Road renamed Steve Irwin Way as a tribute to the late conservationist. 3
- December 2006: Installation of Steve Irwin Way signage. 4
- September 2008: Works begin for upgrade of section of Steve Irwin Way, between Mooloolah Connection Road and the Caloundra Road interchange. 5
- 2009: Completion of duplication of a 3.3 kilometre section of Steve Irwin Way, between Mooloolah Connection Road and the Caloundra Road interchange. 6
