The Wills Developmental Road section is a sealed route that is named after explorer William John Wills, who along with Robert O'Hara Burke, John King and Charles Gray became the first Europeans to cross Australia south to north when they reached the Gulf of Carpentaria in February 1861. 3

Multiplexes along the route include:
A6, for 3 km, Julia Creek.

State Route 84, for 26 km, between Gregory and Burketown.

History:

October 2013: Completion of the sealing of Wills Developmental Road from Gregory to Burketown. 4
21 December 2015: Completion of construction of temporary replacement bridge over Beames Brook at Gregory. This replaced a low-level timber crossing. 5
