General Information:
The Central Coast Hwy named replaced Pacific Hwy between Kariong and West Gosford and is a mix of single carriage way and dual carriageway arterial road servicing the Central Coast area of New South Wales, around 90 minutes north of Sydney. The route services residential, commercial and industrial zones, and also passes through Wyrrabalong National Park and Brisbane Water National Park.
Multiplexes along the route include:
- Tourist Drive 1, for 2 km, between Tuggerah Parade, Long Jetty and Bateau Bay Road, Bateau Bay
History:
- 1930s: A surfaced road between Gosford and The Entrance constructed. 2
- 1934: The original The Entrance Bridge was constructed as a a wooden single lane bridge with bypass bays at intervals that allowed opposing traffic travelling to pass.
- 1965:, Wilfred Barret Drive opened by the then Deputy Premier, the Honourable Pat Hills. The road was named after Councillor Wilfred Barret who was a member of the first Wyong Shire Council. 3
- 17 July 1967: Work begins on current The Entrance Bridge. 3
- 20 December 1968: The Entrance Bridge in its current form officially opened by the then NSW Premier, the Honourable Robert Askin. 3
- July 1989: Upgrade works commences at Kariong Hill. 4
- August 1992: Completion of duplication of Central Coast Hwy (then Pacific Hwy) at West Gosford. 4
- 1993: Completion of upgrade works at Kariong Hill. 4
- 10 December 1995: A bridge over the Main North Railway, linking Gosford to West Gosford officially opened, and was named in honour of Australian politician and former Gosford City Councillor Brian McGowan. 4
- 11 August 2006: Highway 30, Central Coast Highway, gazetted. 5
- 11 December 2013: Official opening of widening works between Matcham Rd Erina Heights and Ocean View Dr at Wamberal. The 2.2 km upgrade includes widening to 2 lanes in each direction, retaining and improving the roundabout at Ocean View Drive and building a new roundabout at Old Gosford Road and Okanagan Close to provide access to the highway, improvements to traffic flow and enablement of U turns. Other work included right turn in and left turn in and out built at Brush Road and, new traffic lights were installed at Willoughby Road. Restrictions were made to Brooks Hill Lane, High Valley Close and Ghersi Avenue to provide left in and left out turns only and bus stop bays were also added. 6
- 2014: Bridgeworks and off ramp roadworks commence for overpass of the Grieve Cl (now Grieve Rd) extension at West Gosford. 7 8
- September 2017: New turning lanes opened to traffic at the junction with Racecourse Rd at West Gosford. 9
