General Information:

Adelaide Avenue is a dual carriageway fully grade-separated road servicing Canberra's inner south linking Yarra Glen and Parliament House with the Woden town centre.

Adelaide Avenue has a transit lane closest to the median strip and passes by The Lodge, the Australian Prime Minister's residence. Together with Yarra Glen it forms the principal route between South Canberra and Woden and also between Civic (Canberra City) and Woden.

History:

November 1958: Completion of the connection of Adelaide Av to State Circle. 1
1963: Construction of Deakin (Hopetoun Cct) overpass. 2
18 December 1968: The Adelaide Avenue / Hopetoun Circuit overpass opened to traffic, which completed the dual carriageway link between Melrose Drive in Woden and National Circuit, Forrest. 3
1969: Widening of Adelaide Avenue, between National Circuit and State Circle completed. 3
9 April 1969: New traffic arrangements at the Adelaide Avenue / State Circle intersection came into effect. 4
28 May 1969: Opening of both ramps at the Adelaide Avenue-State Circle intersection. 5
February 1975: Completion of bus lanes along Adelaide Av. 6
1983: Reconstruction of eastbound lane of Adelaide Av due to Paliament House construction works, and reconstruction and widening of bus lane on Adelaide Avenue (westbound). Construction of new ramp from State Circle to Adelaide Avenue and right turn off State Circle to Adelaide Avenue. Closure of anti-clockwise ramp off State Circle to Adelaide Avenue. 7
13 December 2013: Work commences on replacing the bridge expansion joints of the eastbound bridge over Hopetoun Cct. 8
