South Australia: Millicent
Incorporating photos and Information from Michael Greenslade's former Australian Towns, Cities and Highways site

Millicent, located in the southeast of South Australia lies at the southern junction of the Princes and Southern Ports Highway. The town was established in the 1870's after part of the surrounding swampy area was drained to create new farmlands. More growth occurred as a result of the railway being extended into the area however the town became important as a service centre for the surrounding timber, wheat and dairying industries. Despite the close proximity of Mount Gambier (50km southeast), the town has retained a sleepy feel despite its size and substantial commercial centre. Of interest in the area include the Millicent Swimming Lake (great parkland and swimming centre), Tantanoola Caves (15km southeast) and the Canunda National Park (10km southwest).
