During the 1990s, Main Roads Western Australia introduced Quartz Halogen signals to Western Australia. These signals offered lower power consumption and better light output than previous signals. MRWA replaced a large number of signals across the state with these signals.

3 Aspect Pedestrian Signal:
Unique to WA are these 3 aspect traffic lanterns operating as pedestrian signals. They receive the same phasing as the vehicle signal, but are activated only by the call button. Details on how to use them are on the sticker above the call button. 3 Aspect Signal:

WA is the only state that still paints its signal poles yellow for improved visability.

5 Aspect Signal:

3 Aspect Signal:
Most of the time in WA, if a signal needs to be mounted behind one facing in the other direction, only one signal receives a target board, as shown in the photo. You can also see that the signal with the target board has a white border painted on both the front and back of the target board to cater for this.
